PELION

It is no secret that Pelion, the mountain of the Centaurs, is one of the most beautiful places in Greece, since it combines sea with crystal clear waters and a unique mountain nature.

Pelion is also ideal for hiking tourism and in the winter months for skiing at the ski resort. In summer you can swim in the amazing beaches of Pelion with their turquoise waters and dense vegetation. The whole mountain of Pelion is lush green, full of forests with towering beech trees, plane trees, wild chestnut trees, oak trees, forest pine trees and crops of olive and apple trees at the lower altitudes. For the action lovers, there is the possibility for nature activities such as walking, mountain biking, horseback riding, diving, fishing, etc.

TSAGARADA

Tsagarada is a beautiful traditional village on the eastern slopes of Pelion. It combines a natural environment of outstanding beauty, wonderful sea views and many attractions in and around the village. Also very close to the village are beautiful beaches in the Aegean Sea. Tsagarada spreads amphitheatrically in four districts. Its landscape combines the contrast of mountain and sea, while its beauty is composed of the old mansions of Pelion, the cobbled streets, the chestnut trees, the running waters and the deep blue of the Aegean Sea. It is a popular holiday destination for all seasons of the year.

In the central square of Agia Paraskevi you will meet the old plane tree, more than a thousand years old, with a trunk diameter of 14 m.

You can also visit the churches of Agios Georgios, Agia Kyriaki with its remarkable bell tower, Agioi Apostoloi, Agioi Anargyroi and Agios Stefanos.

Do not miss a visit to the chapel of Panagia Megalomatas which is located in a rock and is full of stalactites. In the same place you can also see the cave where the Hidden School of Tsagarada used to operate during the years of the Turkish occupation.

In Tsagarada is the Achillopouleio Commercial School, founded in 1903.

The Nanopouleios School was built in 1909 with a donation from the benefactor Nik. It is an example of neoclassical architecture, as it was formed in Pelion in the 20th century. It is a stone-built building where the Primary School is housed on the floor of the central part.

ACCESS TO TSAGARADA

From the city of Volos the route to Tsagarada can be done in two ways. The first one is through central Pelion, passing first through Portaria and then through Chania and Makryrachi. It is the most scenic route but is characterized by several bends.

The second one follows the western side of the mountain, next to the Pagasitikos Gulf and passes by coastal villages such as Agria and Kala Nera. Shortly afterwards you will turn left for Milies and from there you will head towards Xourichti.

When you reach Tsagarada, you will see that it is a village built along the road. This impression is also due to the beauty that the village hides. The rich vegetation that surrounds it, the tall chestnut trees, the magnificent plane trees and the various fruit trees that are scattered on the slopes of Pelion.

Of course, Tsagarada is not only a favourite tourist destination for its natural beauty. The inhabitants of the village have taken care over the years to endow it with ornaments such as their own houses, which are traditionally built in the Pelion architecture, the churches, monuments built in beautiful squares under century-old plane trees, the stone bridges and a well-maintained network of paths that give the opportunity for short excursions in the heart of the Pelion forest.

EVENTS

In Tsagarada there are many festivals, such as the feast of Agios Taxiarchis on 28 June, Agia Kyriaki on 7 July, Agia Paraskevi on 26 July and Agios Stefanos on 2 August.

The beach of Mylopotamos, which is just 7 km from the village, will impress you with its unique beauty, the rock in the sea, the golden sandy beach and the deep blue waters. It is one of the most famous beaches of Pelion.

The beach of Fakistra with its steep cliffs, coarse sand and pebbles creates a landscape that is hard to enjoy in Greece.

It is worth it to reach the ridges of Platanakias, Apostolidis, Ag. Stefanou, Koutra and Filaretou, to see the steep and deep gorges and enjoy the unique view to the sea.
The picturesque paths and cobbled cobbled streets of Tsagarada are ideal for hiking. One of these routes is Agia Paraskevi - Damouchari and Tsagarada - Milies.
